Dick Haskamp
I was born and raised in Lincoln Park, Michigan, graduating from Lincoln Park High School in 1966 (OMG!). Graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1973 with a BA in Theatre Arts, having served in the US Army for three years.
Upon graduation, I moved to Santa Monica, CA ( couuldn't get any farther away from MI and still stay in the country). While living there, I had various careers from landscaping to executive search to - TA-D-A-A! - bartending! Well, you can see that no good has come of that!
Having moved to the Desert in 1990, I ended up bartending at a little dump called 'A Streetbar Named Desire', which my long tiime friend Hank Morgan and I soon purchased.
Many ups and downs later, we are now 'STREETBAR', the desert's longest running bar!
Over the years, I have had the honor of serving on a number of Boards of Directors, including AIDS Assistance Program, Desert Tourism Guild, Desert Business Association, Gay Rodeo Assn. and currently perform (as Shirley I-da-ho) with Les Dames du Soleil. I'm in the bar most days at Happy Hour, so stop by and say 'Hi!'.
